As a perennial plant, it takes 3 to 5 growing seasons to reach full maturity and be cultivated.

Hsu's Ginseng currently has over 1,000 acres of prime American Ginseng farmland, carefully selecting the ideal growing conditions. The ginseng plants thrive in loamy, well-drained, shady, and humus-rich soil that is at least 12 inches deep with a high organic content and a pH of 5.5. These specific soil characteristics are crucial, as American Ginseng can only thrive in virgin soil, and once used for ginseng cultivation, the land is never reused for the same crop.

The harvesting process is a labor of love. In early fall, the ginseng seeds are gathered as the stems and leaves begin to yellow and die off. The roots are then mechanically dug and hand-harvested from the ground. The final steps involve washing, chilling, sorting, grading, and packaging the roots, all while following current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
